Basic Outdoor Survival Skills

Basic Outdoor Survival Skills is a 24 hour, hands on class that will take place in an outdoor environment designated by the Instructor.  It will cover basic survival skills and use of some equipment needed for survival, camping, hiking or an emergency situation.

 Whether you’re learning how to enjoy the outdoors in a simple camping/hiking trip or in an emergency that takes the form of civil unrest, vehicle break down in a remote area or lost in the wilderness this class will give you knowledge and skills that will help you survive.

Students will be instructed and expected to carry their overnight gear approx 1.5 or more miles into the field where they will then learn and have the opportunity to practice the following skills.

  • Shelter set up (Tent/Hammock/Lean-to)

  • Fire Starting

  • Water Purification

  • Survival food options and their preparation

  • Use of knives and other survival tools to prep camp and create fire

  • Fishing

  • Basic Land Navigation using a compass and map

 

A gear list will be sent to each student weeks in advance to ensure each student has time to gather the items they will need on their trip

 

The instructor for this class is a Hunter, Fisherman, Hiker and former Marine with training in land navigation, first aid, jungle survival, arctic survival & man tracking.
